Steve from Nerdfitness.com/blog created a post titled “I Worked out and Now I’m so Sore. Help?” This
post discusses an issue that every new weightlifter deals with, which is
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS. DOMS is the result of completing a strenuous
workout that causes micro tears in the muscle. Moreover, Delayed Onset Muscle
Soreness typically occurs to those who are novice weight lifters and people who
have taken a few weeks off of working out. According to Steve, soreness is typically
at its highest point roughly 48 hours after a workout session.
The
poster also argues that a high level of soreness after a particularly strenuous
resistance strength training session is desirable for novice weightlifters
because it is a clear sign that a weightlifter pushed themselves to the limit.
However, your body will quickly adapt, and DOMS should no longer occur at a
certain point in your life as a dedicated weightlifter. So, that means that
DOMS will no longer serve as a way to tell a lifter if they have pushed themselves
enough to grow their muscles. Therefore, it is important to get to know your
body and how it reacts to various exercises in order get the most out of your
workouts. Or simply, workout hard enough to stimulate your muscles to grow, but
not hard enough to where it may cause injury that would stop you from working
out the rest of the week. The key here is balance. Steve, the blogger, also has
some good tips on his post that will help you recover and deal with DOMS. To
